Worldwide annex to July 30th event

Summary:

July 28, 2005 -- pingVision (www.pingV.com) and the BlogHer Conference '05 (www.BlogHer.org) announced yesterday that pingVision will host an online chatroom dedicated to the women's event.

The 11th-hour partnership will provide a real-time global annex to the BlogHer Conference taking place on Saturday, July 30th in Santa Clara, CA.

Detail:

"We wanted to do what we could to support what seems like a very worthwhile event," pingVision president Laura Scott said. "Start-ups of any kind are never easy. If we can help make it possible for more people to participate, it's worth it."
On the BlogHer website, organizer Lisa Stone said, "When I saw with a shock the size of BlogHer's waitlist and continued to hear of global interest in these sessions, I asked Laura's advice on chat. Predictably, she's making it happen."
"We're setting it up as a web-based chat," said Scott. "If we limited participation to people who felt comfortable playing with IRC, I'm afraid it would just be us geekettes, and BlogHer is about all women."
Stone concurred. "We considered going prehistoric uber-geek with IRC, but were worried about (a) trolls and (b) how to help a range of users from geek to newbie find the right client, especially folks on MACs."
In a blog post on their website, Scott expressed hope for success. "This is all very last-minute, and we're doing our little part on faith that if we build it they will come. It's our hope that many women (and men) interested in how the internets are changing how women (and men) do business, get active, interact and so on will stop by the official chatroom and get in on the discussion."

Visitors with internet access can visit the BlogHer chatroom at www.pingV.com on Saturday, July 30th, from 7am to 7pm PDT (2pm to 2am GMT).
